DOGGIE SITTER…

Coming out of my office earlier today, I saw the cutest thing in the world.

Little Emma Mayer (probably about 3 years old), was sitting on the carpet staring at our “Hotel Security”.  She just sat there staring at them, not saying a word.

Emma is travelling with her parents from Austria and they are enjoying South Africa.  This afternoon they have been booked to do a Game Drive in Plettenberg Bay…..she sure is in for a surprise.

Hope little Emma will remember our “Hotel Security” and will nag her parents to come back.

Camps Bay Netbal Team

The Camps Bay Team still at The Knysna Log-Inn

Today is the last day of the “Keith Cretchley Netbal Tournament” arranged by Sport at Backward Point.   What an incredible 3 days.  The girls must be very tired as they have been playing 4 to 5 matches per day and yesterday almost rained out!

In 2007 Keith Cretchley was presented with a Knysna Loerie Award for Community Contributor of the year in the category for sport, and more recently, the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International bestowed upon him their highest accolade of the Paul Harris Fellow Award ‘in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world’.

Keith’s sporting achievements from his youth till today include having played representative sport at various levels in cricket, rugby, golf, squash, and athletics. He is an avid angler in his spare time and was awarded Springbok colours for competition surf-casting. More recently he has been contributing through sports administration at Club, Provincial and National level in a number of sporting disciplines. His love and enthusiasm of dealing with children is one of his strongest attributes.

Well done Sport at Backward Point for arranging this amazing tournament and for introducing some of these young players to Knysna.  We are sure they will tell all their friends and parents about this amazing little town of ours!

Shweshwe is a printed dyed cotton fabric widely used for traditional South African clothing worn by newly married Xhosa women and married Sotho women.  The fabric is manufactured in a variety of colours and printing designs characterised by intricate geometric patterns.  Aside from traditional wear, shweshwe is used in contemporary South African fashion design as well as making accessories and upholstery.  It is used in the USA as quilting fabric.

Da Gama Textiles in Zwelistsha, King William’s Town has been producing shweshwe fabric since 1982.

The genuine product can be recognized by feel, smell, taste, sound, trademark logo on the reverse side, 90 cm fabric width and stiffness of the new fabric from traditional starching which washes out.

We are passionate about the fabric, says MARIA BRITZ, owner of the shop at the Knysna Log-Inn Hotel.  All items are handmade by creative women who took a look at these wondrous bolts of cloth, fell in love with the fabric and made it their own.  Swish-Shwe stocks a wide range of handbags, cosmetic bags, toys, key-rings, cushion covers, aprons and more.  We also stock the shweshwe panels for skirts and aprons (makoti)
